A lesson Learnt

With AVB announcing to persist with Brad Friedel, many fans seem some what baffled, but is it justified? Being a Spurs fan whom is just as pessimistic as the rest, feel we have always been a teamm who seem to lose concentration at the back and concede slopy goals.  Since Brad Friedel entered the frame on a free transfer last season, he has made our backline look somewhat stronger along with the reinvigerated Younes Kaboul.  Although highly rated, Hugo Lloris is very slight for a Keeper, similiar to when David De Gea joined the league, Lloris could well be overun due to his lack of presence.

At Chelsea, Andre Villas-Boas seemed from the outset to have problems with the more Prominent charachters in the squad (especially those older than himself). I for one, feel since taking control of Spurs, AVB has learnt from his mistakes. He has shown faith in the forever ageing Brad Friedel, and more importantly has kept William Gallas in the first team. Many feel Gallas is over the hill, I along with many other fans disagree, although the guy has played for a couple of teams down the road, he possosses great fight and shows great spirit. He reads the game well, is a true leader and most importantly knows how to win. A game away at Sunderland a couple of years back springs to mind. Gallas left the field to change his boots, as Gallas was running back into position, Asamoah Gyan netted past the stranded Heurolho Gomes. Gallas darted to the goal, to pick the ball out of the net and run it to the centre spot with a real determination in his face, while the likes of Gareth Bale and Benoit Assou-Ekotto wandering around with their heads down. Gallas along with Kaboul formed a solid partneship and were two of our best players last season. AVB could have easily dropped Friedel and Gallas because they are big characters aswell as being older than him. He has shown maturity by picking these two players on attitude, footballing ability and performance.
